But you can always just let me know about the video and then I’ll definetly know about it!

I had some feedback mentioning that people subscribed via email were unable to view the videos, so will start including links to the youtube videos from now on as well :)

Kidlington News Roundup: 19-25 September

0

4 Kidlington related stories in the news for the 19th to 25th of September. Here they are:

Owner Shuts Down Stores Blaming High Rents. An article written about the closure of Clovers in Kidlington and Botley. Always sad when local shops shut down.

Movie Charts City’s Music Scene. Interesting story about a Film Director (from Kidlington) who has made a documentary about the Oxford Music Scene. I fancy checking this out actually. The film will tour independent cinemas across the country before it is released on DVD later this year.

Residents share memories of life in the 50s. Residents of Oxford’s Cutteslowe estate who grew up together in the 1950s were reunited at a party at the weekend. They gathered at the Green Road Club in Kidlington on Saturday to share memories.

Scouting in need of more leaders. More than 100 Oxford youngsters want to join the Scouts but cannot because of a shortage of adult leaders, the new district commissioner has said. Paul Thompson, 26, is thought to be one of the youngest district commissioners in the movement and hopes to recruit more adult volunteers of all ages. Mr Thompson – who teaches design and technology at St Gregory the Great School in Oxford – succeeds Kidlington’s Val Butcher.

Kidlington Video Showcase #2

0

A day late, but I’ve been having some issues with my internet connection this week. Hopefully it’s all sorted now and can get back to writing regular posts!

In a continuing series on KidlingtonBlog.co.uk called Kidlington Video Showcase, here are another 3 videos that I have found. I hope you will enjoy them or find them interesting!

I’ve never really listened to folk music before, but I enjoyed this video and others by these 3 that can be found on Youtube. This was recorded in The Highwayman Hotel in Kidlington, where they have monthly folk nights on the 3rd sunday of the month, starting at 8pm.

Copied this from the Youtube Description as it explains it all nicely…! Kidlington vs Climate Change meeting on the first Tuesday of each month for social drinks and engaging conversations. Come along and join in on the first Tuesday of each month from 8pm at The Squire Bassett, Kidlington, Oxfordshire. For more information visit www.KvsCC.org.uk.

Any Fossil collectors out there reading this blog? This is a video of the Oxford Mineral Fossil Show filmed on Sunday 6th March 2011 @ Exeter Hall. The next show is on Sunday 4th December 2011. For more information, go to www.lowestone.com. I quite fancy going along out of interest actually! Shall mark it in my diary.

Kidlington News Roundup. Super dumps and fire call centre shake up.

0

Not really much going on this week in the news for Kidlington. Couple of stories though.

Council blocks plan to build £20m waste treatment plant. The headline sounds good, but upon reading it… you see that they have approved a £3m “super dump” to be built on greenbelt farmland between Oxford Spires Business Park and Langford Meadows Wildlife Site.

Fire call centre shake-up back on the agenda. A potential merger of Kidlington Call Centre with other call centres is being fought against by the Fire Brigade Union. Both sides have their reasons for and against the merger, so will be be interesting to see how this plays out.

What are your views on the above stories? Let us know in the comments, tweet us on twitter or post a comment on our facebook page!

In the first of a regular series of weekly posts that I shall call ‘Kidlington Video Showcase’, where I will feature 3 videos that are set in Kidlington! Some may have been originally uploaded a while ago, but will soon catch up!

This guy got a pretty boring video of the 2A BUS Ride from Kidlington to Oxford, speeded it up and put some music to it! Works pretty well actually!

2 American (I assume American, so I apologize if Canadian!) lasses walked around Kidlington for the first time… and discovered one of their favourite coffee chains!

An explanation of the Dispersal Order in Kidlington Town Centre to Tackle Anti Social Behaviour.

I have plenty more videos lined up to feature in this series and a regular search running for new videos, but if you have a particularly interesting video then please let me know by following and tweeting KidlingtonBlog on Twitter or liking and posting on the wall of KidlingtonBlog on Facebook.

Welcome to KidlingtonBlog.co.uk

Hello and welcome to kidlingtonblog.co.uk!

First of all, let me introduce myself, my name is Will Claxton and I have lived in Kidlington for approximately one week! I’ve always lived in Oxford on the ‘other sides’.. Botley, Cowley Road, Abingdon. But circumstances have led me here, the wonderful world of Kidlington!

I decided to set up this blog because I couldn’t really find any clear information online about what there is to do in Kidlington. So figured why not just do it myself?!

The plan is is to publish regular posts about anything going on in Kidlington, including:

  • News
  • Events
  • Sports
  • Music
  • Photos

I’d also like to write some ‘History Of Kidlington’ articles. (There is also a selfish motive here, I have never really done much History writing before, so this is a good way for me to practice and get feedback!)

Here is where I need your help though. I have a few sources of information for Kidlington news, but the key is getting hold of all that good stuff I can’t find! So I beg, if you know of anything going on, from fund raising events to new shops opening then please please let me know. There are loads of ways of getting in contact with me which can all be found on the contact page.

Above, I mentioned photos. I thought it would be fun if the photographers out there could send their best photos. Not sure exactly how it would work yet, but figured some sort of fun competition (no physical prize, just an ego boost!). Depending on the volume of photos received, I can set up a vote which the community will decide on the best. Will let that idea mull over in my head for a few days and will then let you know how it will work.

Anyway, I hope that you will enjoy reading this blog. If you want to keep up to date then there are plenty of options, you can follow KidlingtonBlog on twitter, become a fan on facebook or subscribe by RSS or email. All these options can be found listed on the right hand side of any page on KidlingtonBlog.co.uk.
